The Government of Quebec and the Autonomous Province of Trento confirm the important ties that unite them, particularly in the field of research and innovation. Fields in which the opportunities for collaboration range from artificial intelligence, to the wood building sector, through bio-economy, sustainable agriculture and biomedical research. And it is precisely in the field of life sciences that the project selected by the Delegation of Québec in Rome, in collaboration with the Internationalization Unit of the Autonomous Province of Trento and the Fondazione Hub Innovazione Trentino (HIT) within the framework of the Program to support local initiatives of the Government of Québec, is inserted. “We would like to thank the Québec delegation in Italy for the attention they have shown towards the research and innovation system in Trentino and for supporting its further growth – says Achille Spinelli, Councillor for Economic Development, Research and Employment of the Autonomous Province of Trento – We hope that the alliance with Québec, one of the most dynamic and technologically advanced territories in North America, can develop and become even more structured“.
Specifically, Québec’s delegate in Italy, Marianna Simeone, recently signed an agreement with university professor and director of the Department of Cell, Computational and Integrated Biology at the University of Trento (Cibio), Paolo Macchi, to provide a grant to the project. This contribution will be used for research led by Professor Peter Arthur Irene De Wulf aimed at developing a new class of anti-tumor drugs that, unlike current therapies, would not destroy microtubules – key elements of cell division – significantly reducing the side effects, especially at the neuronal level, of chemotherapy.
The Quebec government’s contribution comes at an already advanced stage of research and will facilitate the completion of data collection on the efficacy of the new molecules in vitro, a necessary step to begin actual testing of the compounds in vivo.

In the last few days, the scientific attaché of the Quebec delegation in Rome has been visiting Trentino to meet the University of Trento and the provincial research foundations with a view to promoting new joint work projects.
