Canadian Chamber delegation in Italy meets with the Canadian Minister for International Trade

On the sidelines of the G7 Summit on International Trade, held in Reggio Calabria on 16 and 17 July, representatives of the Canadian Chamber in Italy delegation, Stefano Colombetti, Vice President, and Sergio Passariello, Delegate for International Relations, attended a working breakfast at the Residence of the Ambassador of Canada in Italy, Elissa Golberg.

The meeting, organized by the Embassy of Canada in Italy, on July 15, 2024, was attended by the Canadian Minister for Export Promotion, International trade and economic development, Hon. Mary NG.

During the meeting, representatives of the Canadian Chamber delegation in Italy discussed topics of great importance for international trade and opportunities for economic cooperation between Italy and Canada. They also updated the Minister Mary NG on the activities of the Chamber in the field of relations with the countries of the Mediterranean. The event was also attended by the Italian Foreign Secretary, Giorgio Silli, to whom the projects of the Chamber were presented.

The projects discussed by the delegation of the Canadian Chamber in Italy

The already excellent bilateral relations between Canada and Italy are further strengthened by the Canada-Italy roadmap. The political institutions of both countries have reaffirmed their strategic unity in addressing pressing global challenges and pursuing common goals.

The points of the Canada-Italy roadmap for enhanced cooperation were at the centre of discussions in the G7 meetings in Villa San Giovanni and Reggio Calabria. The Vice-President of the Council and Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, had a fruitful exchange with Minister Mary NG. The topics covered on 16 July will include: The resolution of remaining commercial stickiness was discussed to unlock the full potential of bilateral trade and maximise the opportunities provided by the roadmap.

This meeting allowed us to exchange ideas and lay the foundations for future collaborations that will certainly be beneficial for both parties.”

Italy and Canada are united in the development of clean and renewable energy technologies, promoting energy security, trade cooperation, and promoting shared climate and environmental objectives. The roadmap reflects the commitment of both countries to close cooperation in addressing global challenges and promoting sustainable prosperity, global stability and the rule of law.

The Canadian Chamber in Italy will continue to work actively to promote trade and economic relations between Italy and Canada, The European Commission, DG XIII, has published a report on the European Union’s research and development policy in the field of energy. In the coming months new collaborations will be announced that will involve the entire area of the Mediterranean.
